Yann Tiersen has made soundtracks and is really good... "Les Jours Tristes" has in spite of the title, quite hopeful lyrics in English

I'd say it was a mix of sad and happy.
It did, indeed, have a sad ending, but overall there were some quite happy moments for young Donnie.
