I can't. I won't be able to learn to drive for two more years unfortunately.

Jim O'Rourke starts in ten minutes

Classes start Sept. 26th for me, which means, I might have to go to the San Francisco show. I would prefer seeing them with Riley, but that depends on my schedule.

Oh, forgot to mention that I saw the Peter Brotzmann/Nasheet Waits Duo at a local museum (Buffalo, NY) on October 7. Took my ex with me. It was a great show. She really liked it, too...despite not being too familiar with that whole scene. Nasheet Waits was fascinating to watch. My one gripe was that it was a VERY short concert. Only one set which didn't last for more than an hour. I know it was free (pecuniarily AND musically) and all, but...

So now I look forward to:

Cooper-Moore / Assif Tsahar Duo
Assif Tsahar (tenor saxophone, bass clarinet)
Cooper-Moore (homemade instruments)
Tuesday, October 25 • 8:00 p.m.

and...

The Thing with Joe McPhee
Joe McPhee (saxophones, trumpet)
Mats Gustafsson (tenor/baritone saxophones)
Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (contrabass)
Paal Nilssen-Love (drums)
Saturday, November 26 • 8:00 p.m.

There's also a Frode Gjerstad concert that I'll be checking out on Nov. 5.

Some other stuff too that I'll mention when concert time approaches.

I doubt you'll have anything to complain about with those groups. (( Judging from the live records I own, anyway. )) And as always, I truly envy your location. If I somehow manage to scrap some cash together by December, I'm going to seriously attempt to see Cecil Taylor in NY. The fact that I've yet to witness the most important living musician on the planet (( who's still playing )) really upsets me.

Exactly...I'm unable to just buzz out to NYC myself. I have to wait for the shows to come to me. Good thing is, the Hallwalls program here is awesome. The shows could be a little more frequent, but I'm glad to get anything out here.

Luckily, I'll be in Delaware by December, making a trip by car a little more feasible. Attempting the same from Georgia would be suicide on my part, what with my sense of direction.

Do you guys know if Taylor is playing anywhere near the SF bay area anytime soon? I googled him, couldn't find a schedule anywhere.

Cooper-Moore / Assif Tsahar Duo

The show wasn't as tight as the other jazz shows I've been to recently.

Cooper-Moores homemade instruments added a primitive effect. A couple of the stringed instruments weren't really cooperating (staying in tune).

The Ashimba was a nice effect.

Assif was, more or less, playing traditional jazz melodies. A lot of circular breathing and tongue pops...slithering ostinato patterns on the bass clarinet.

The atmosphere was very impromptu and Cooper-Moore's quirky, bumbling sense of humor brought smiles to our faces (all ten of us).

Didn't expect them to taunt us so with a rendition of "U Can't Touch This."
