I would add to that list The Who Sell Out and Live at Leeds. Not to mention the amount of great Who songs that were never placed on a studio release - "Magic Bus", "The Seeker", "Substitute" (their best song I think), "Join Together", and probably some others I can't remember - these guys had great songs to spare.

Yes they did, and Pete was pretty much behind everyone of them. A very underrated songwriter.

WHAT?? How can you comapre the two. Pete was a guitarist and Freddy was a lead singer! Freddy is better IMO, he can do anything. He can play piano, do opera, do rock and is the best showman of all time. Who cares about the lyrics of Queen, aesthiclaly they were some of the best songs of all time. Now the Who were great, but no-one will ever ocmapre to Freddy, now one will ever come close again..Plus, the Who had less great songs than Queen. The Who has I Can't Explain," "I Can See for Miles," "Pinball Wizard," "My Generation," "Substitute" The Who's greatest hits has only 19 tracks when Queens has how many disks??. Queen has untold scores of great songs and performances. Queen stole the show at LIVEAID..Queen were the best band of all time and Freddy the best lead singer of all time.. You can't say that Pete was a better guitarist than Freddy was a singer. That's insanity. Freddy was the best singer of all time. Pete was not even close to best guitarist. It should be a comparison between Daltry and Freddy. Freddy could play piano and be a great frontman as well as an inspirational song writer, Pete was a great song writer don't get me wrong, but Queen were the cutting edge of music for a long time. They introduced the first videos, they were the first to mix opera and rock, and rock and pop. They wer ethe best glam rock band by far. Personally I prefer hits like Touch of magic to Substitue, and Bohemina rhapsody to pinball wizard. If you don't agree that's your opionon but I think this is a pointless comparision because there can only be one answer..

I won't debate your opinion, you have it. But most of what you said is such a crock. Queen was not the first to do any of those things you mentioned. First videos? Please, the Beatles did videos in the 60's to promote their music. The first to mix rock and pop? Are you a uniformed music fan. Do you know how many bands mixed rock and pop before Queen? Hundreds! Opera and rock? What does that mean? ELO did that type of music (I assume you were referring to songs like Bohemian Rhapsody), so did many other prog and pop bands. I wouldn't call Queen on the cutting edge of music either. They basically took glam rock and turned it into their own style of glam rock/pop. Have you ever listened to any other music in the 70's? The New York Dolls? Bowie? You'll find some of Queen's roots there. Pete Townshend was a lot more cutting edge than Freddy ever was. The Who was very original, creative, and imho a lot more important in the history of rock music than Queen ever will be.

I don't mean to come off so harshly, but if you are going to state a preference, that's fine. If you back it up with unsubstantiated facts, then you are going to hear it from myself and many others on this board.

Didn't Dylan do the first video, for Subterranean Homesick Blues?
He may have a point though, with Queen being the first with a music video. I'm not sure about this, but Bohemian Rhapsody may have been the first with an actual music video like we know it now (with effects and all), whereas before that, videos were just about the musicians playing their instruments.

On topic: I went with Queen. Queen's songs have parts that I want to listen to, like the solo in "I want it all", the guitar riff in "Bohemian rhapsody", the Sabbath-like riff in "The Prophet Song", etc. etc.
But with The Who (although I only have "Who's next") I just don't feel engaged listen. They have some nice songs, but they bite the dust when compared to hard rock bands of that era like Led Zeppellin, Deep purple or the Stones. Queen doesn't hold up against these bands either, but their bombast makes their music different enough to avoid instant comparison. And that's partly due to Freddy.
