Metal is one of the more diverse rock genres.

I say, tell me what kind of music you're into. Perhaps you can convert all of us to that.

Well?

Why should you listen to it? To try something new. If you can't get into immediately, try some different bands and just listen to them a few times, even if you don't like it at first. Sometimes it can take some getting used to. Try paying attention to one instrument for a song if it's too fast for you to enjoy, like listen for guitar riffs on time then for the drums the next. That is what I did when I first tried to get into Jazz and it worked out great. I know this isn't about Jazz but I figure it's the same basic concept.

Metal can be really fun if you're into it and it's my second favorite music to blast in the car. I find it to be better than punk rock and indie rock just because metal songs just seem more complete to me. Just my opinion though.

My first metal band was Slayer.

I like some metal, but most stuff is just too heavy or it's just solo after solo after solo and I don't like that kind of music...

Just throwing CD titles at him is futile. Why don't you try telling him why you love metal?

Actually, Paranoid is not one of my favourite Metal albums. I even think it's not Sabbath's greatest (I like Master of Reality better)

The reason I like Metal is because it's so diverse. There's dark and gloomy stuff, up-tempo thrashing, social commentary, storytelling, and it has character. Plus, some Metal bands actually manage to improve their songs when they play live.
