The combination of Axl Rose's voice and Slash's guitar work really works along with the other members of G n'R.
My favourite songs of theirs would be 'Sweet Child O' Mine', 'Paradise City', 'Civil War', 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door', 'You Could Be Mine' and their excellent cover of the Stones 'Sympathy for the Devil'.
I think they have stood the test of time as the greatest rock n' roll band ever.

Sorry, but back in the day when they came out, them and Motley Crue were the wild, crazy, kickass bands of rock. Most of you were conceived the same time that Appetite For Destruction was conceived, so I wouldnt expect you to understand (those of you that were around at the time that dont like them Ill never understand). Music was ALOT different than it is now back then. IMO they were the best that was offered at the time. I mean, imagine this. At the time, when you watched MTV, it was Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue, The Bangles, The B-52's, Mike and the Mechanics, Phil Collins, Poison, VIRTUALLY NO RAP (too bad that didnt last) on MTV, etc.., It was a way different time. Maybe it has just stuck with me, but I really think Slash was/is an amazing guitarist and the band just meshed really well and at the time, their wild lifestyle made it that more interesting.

Well, I was one of those around at the time when they first popped out on the scene, and I don't enjoy the music all that much; hardly at all. I suppose I did when I first heard it. I still think 'Estranged' is an excellent tune. But the music just did not last for me. It is not timeless in any way, all very dated in fact. So, I was around when they first came out, liked them somewhat then, but now only think of high school dances when GnR is brought up.
Just a sidebar: an "ALOT" is a kind of camel.

Slash is good. the rest of GnR is passable. they sound too 80's for me.

agreed. except that I like rush. the worst thing you could possibly do as a band is sound 80s.

You must have a very narrow definition of "rock 'n' roll." Please explain how they've eclipsed the Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Aerosmith, etc etc...
