Ableton Live - Don't miss this!!!
If you haven't heard of it, it's not too late….
If you’re working with it, you’re safe.
If you’ve heard of it, you’re a PC user (which most of you probably are), and you haven’t tried it yet, or you’ve decided not to work with it, shame on you! You’re an ar%#hole!!!!!
The same goes for me. I know what it did, I had it installed, I just never used the program. How stupid could I have been!!! Nowadays Live makes my life a lot easier, and I’ll explain just why that is.
I always make my music with Logic Audio (ver. 5.5.1), and I am very happy with it. In fact, I am so happy with it that it makes me lazy as f*%k. I never have the urge to try new programs, even though I am aware of their technological advantage. I always take my loops (drums for example), cut them up in Logic and time stretch and pitch shift my way through the composition. This is a very inefficient and long process which can be fun from time to time, but which makes the composing also a bit less intuitive.
Now here’s the great thing about Live: I just bounce the part of the song which needs more layers of sound, import it in Live and skip though my sample banks, because Live stretches all your previews to the right tempo in the click! All you have to do is make sure it’s loops you need, and the fun is guaranteed.
Live also makes it possible to time stretch within the loop. This means that if one of the snares in your drum loop is a bit out of beat, you can drag a marker point (which Live creates automatically on every 1/16 beat) right on the snare, and Live will time stretch the material before and after the marker point just right. It is also possible to very easily change the volume and pitch of every 1/16 beat, so you can create your own accents and melodies with an pre-existing sample.
The time stretching and pitch shifting sounds amazing, and also tempo changes are most certainly an option. The on board EQ and compression are amazingly up to the standard, and the program just works so smooth, it took me about 5 mins to get the hang of it. So come on people, get yer arse up and download / buy this amazing little piece of software, because it’s not too late yet!

i see what you mean, but i think i'd rather stick to something that is comfortable. even if other programs can save you some time, i think you are better off producing with a program that you know inside and out so that you do not have to be pre-occupied with learning new tools all of the time. that's just my opinion though.

thats true steve, but heres the deal; what you do with Acid 3.0 i thought was impossible, and so did Equinox and Berf Murret (we were discussing it if you havent heard).
On paper, Reason 2.5 is 30 times better than Acid, but you have so much talent/skill/whatever imo that you make very good tracks (you have an e-release man!) and i dont think its just because you are so familiar with it.
If you could get familiar with something like Ableton Live, wow man i dont even know.
Now dont get a big head, but i mean this.

That's why I still use Logic for most of the stuff, but there's just some things that Live can do that other programs can't. Well, don't listen to me, you'll find out some day....!
