Have you ever tried Do As Infinity , they are a really good band. Its other Japnese bands out like Every Little Thing, L'arc en Ciel, and Day After Tomorrow. Its also some great Japanese rock soloist like Nanase Aikawa, Shiina Ringo, Hyde, and Gackt.

The borders between whats rock and whats pop blur alot more realistically in Japan than... Everywhere else. Ill put up the bands i know, but ive only really gotten in Japanese reggae;

Love Physcadelico
Orange Range
Guitar Wolf
The Neatbeats
Shakalabbits

Its my mate Scott thats really into this, ill ask him when i next see him. Guitar Wolf are instrumental and sound sort of like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and The Neatbeats are a rock&roll/rockabilly sort of outfit, really good although they dont sound "Japanese" as it were. Ive been doing volunteer work in Japan for 6 months now, so ive come to it from the same sort of angle you are. And if you want Japanese Reggae, i dont mind Rocking Time.
