Actually, knowledgeable people who love music appreciate the good stuff regardless of age. Good melodies and lyrics are timeless.

There's always been crappy music on the radio, you just remember the good stuff cause that's what mattered. Anyone remember Ace of Base? It's the same song over and over. What about Milli Vanilli?
Just feel comfort in the fact that over half of these bands won't release more than two albums, something new will come along, and there will always be bands that stand out and last longer than the rest that can actually play.
The older a band gets, the older their audience gets. If the band can adapt to the changing of the audience, than they can continue to achieve new sounds and better qualities. It's hard to make a generalization about music now because we are looking at it now, we look at the past only through rose-tinted glasses.

That is getting less and less true, when it comes to mainstream music. Clear Channel did n't always dominate radio formats like they do now, and pop songs weren't cross-merchandised in the same manner they are now. If you take a Top 40 list from 20 years ago, or even 10, and compare it to now, it is clear that while Milli Vanilli were at or near the bottom of the barrel when they were scoring hits, they'd be at the middle of the pack, or near the top, had those same songs been garnering airplay right now. Pop music is, and always has been, about formulas. But what happens when you simply reuse one single formula over and over again? You get today's radio.

That's the very reason I don't listen to the radio ever.
