Iz john Zorn overrated???

Wanted to see what people thought. There's no doubt about his contributions
to avant-garde & experimental music (naked city, painkiller, masada).
However I feel that he's not as great as many make of him. Much of his
other music seems uninspired, monotonous in its usage of style, and aims
at "being" avant-garde, while sounding the same as his previous album.

thoughts? not bashing, just saying...there is something to being prolific.
the other side of the coin is putting out loads of horssh_t that has little or
no substance, or little to say, in the grand scheme of things. and the worst
part of all this, is that there are many many people that buy whatever he
puts out!

Actually, Satchmo has an excellent memory. If I hadn't posted in the threads or read them, I wouldn't have known. Satchmo doesn't forget anything he read or what he and others said.

I should post more John Zorn related posts. They appear to be one of the sure fire ways to get you to respond. Otherwise, you’re MIA Down Under. Those cops are getting sick of us down there.

I wonder if there are any milk cartons Down Under, which don't have, "Have You Seen Geoff" on them? You, Down Under, Seba in Georgia, and Walrus in Texas, take up a lot of milk cartons.

I don't know if those milk cartons will help for Seba... his profile subtitle says "End Transmission"... and his avatar is gone, always a bad sign...

Oh, don't worry about our man Seba.

One thing is for sure. He shouldn't get into any line of profession, which requires him to go undercover.

So, it's been 9 months exactly, since you started your version of this thread. Have you even attempted to check any of the suggestions, which I gave you?

Hey, I'm a working musician...broke as a joke.

If they don't carry it at the library, I won't be getting it any time soon! Hmm, looks like I'll be hearing a lot of Andrew Lloyd Weber.

Things will probably pick up in a couple'of months.

Redbird is still one of the worst records I've ever heard in my life. He actually sat down and wrote that? Unbelievable. Oh, It's boring...must be highbrow.

I agree actually, altohugh I am a huge Zorn fan I do think he is very overrated and can be boring and predictable at times, but then again who isn't like that?
