Which audio format is the most popular in this world? mp3? wma?...

I wonder which audio is the best in this world, either mp3, wma or else.

Are they only popular in certain area??If yes, Which area??Why??

Looks like i ask lots of questions....

Coz i m currently doing a research on audio format. i also looking for info about media player (software) and portable media player and which audio format they support.

can anyone tell me how or where to get them?

i think aac sounds best, but i probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between that and mp3.

wma, not so good (especially as far as compatability goes)

If you're doing research on audio formats, you should really go into their makeup. the only truly lossless audio formats are wav and aif/aiff. The rest use one form of psychoacoustic compression or another.

Psychoacoustics is the science of how the ear hears things.. for example if I were to play you a pure 500Hz tone, you'd hear 500Hz plus a slope from that with the frequencies after that but quieter..

There's a bit of info on mp3 compression and psychoacoustics here.

I've not read up on psychoacoustics for a few years so my knowledge is a little sketchy.
