I don't know how to explain, but...
The albums I have by Monk (Genius of modern, live at the it clubb, live at the jazz workshop and the one with coltrane) have melodies in them. What I ment with complex is.... too many notes and hardly a melody...

In Monk's music I hear he plays with passion. In the music I describe as complex, I hear that the musicians leaarned their theory very well... but there's hardly passion. Or that's how it appears to me. They can't transport their fun in playing to me as Monk does...

(people who don't get this >>> check the fav jazz decade post, it's there satch found the fact I don't like complex music. Above is explained better)
