Another genius that's forgotten is Marvin Gaye. That man had such a voice! his music is always so moving and those melodies! That man was blessed.

true... but of any rythm and blueser, i think he stands as one of the most recognized, next to Mr. Charles, Ms. Franklin, and possibly Mr. Wonder.

I was really glad to see that Shuggie Otis re-issue a year or two back. The reviews were pretty great. Sadly, I think maybe the reviews were so great they put some people off. Still, I always really liked his stuff.

The Chambers Brothers are always remembered for "Time Has Come Today", but their whole body of work needs to be checked out, some really great stuff.

Donny Hathaway...now that was a voice. Put it together with Roberta Flack and it was a sound made in heaven.

Brook Benton - I rarely hear about him, though I've heard Rainy Night in Georgia played in some movies now and then. Even WikiPedia doesn't have more than a sentence about him.

Mary Wells - Though she had a lot of other hits and some great songs, the only one I ever hear is My Guy. And I've never heard anything about her life outside of music.

I've been listening to The Staples Singers. It's amazing how they seem to have pretty much fallen off the face of the earth. BOY do I like their stuff.

I give up.
Do I?

yes, I do.
MAN, that Mavis Staples lady can sing!!!
