I have dld some tracks with this ending, I can't seem to play them... would anyone know why?

.m4a format is usually associated with itunes. If you downloaded them, you might have to either play them in a mac supported player (itunes for example) or even Winamp. That's what i use.

but I can't change them to mp3 format?

not to my knowledge. I tried to change the file extension myself and it wouldn't play on any player, and as phantam said, you have to have the latest version of quicktime installed if you want to play it that way, but also, as i said, it may play on your winamp.
