I've got a really stupid question

When I was in music class (many years ago ) we learned about do re mi fa sol la ti do. But now things seems to have changed and everything is A B C D E F G

It's confusing me a lot. Cansomeone help me with the letters. I know for people who played the guitar that the letters might be easier, but i played the violin, it doesn't look easy to me....

I guess it's a direct translation basically:
do = C
re = D
mi = E
fa = F
etc.

Did you learn to read manuscript Stardust?
I'm not sure if I answered your question, but you might find an explaination in the "Basics" thread:
http://www.radiomute.com/musicthread16415.html

Hmm, on a violin, I think the strings are G D E A, G being the lowest sounding string... I think.
Maybe you could use that as a reference.

The violin's strings ascend by fifths: G D A E

Solfege: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solfege

This sort of thing is easily researched on the internet.
