Speedy J - Ginger

Everyone knows that A Shocking Hobby is great, but have any of you cats heard Ginger? Playing it now, and I must say, I'm really impressed by what he has done with it, especially since it's his first LP. Doesn't sound dated at all for being a '93 release. Feels like truly original techno, which is a rare and valuable thing indeed. Where A Shocking Hobby is harsh and industrial, Ginger is a more restrained and technological beast. The edges are rounder. It has less fury, and more groove.

I highly recommend this record.

I highly recommend The G Spot and the highly overlooked Public Energy Number 1.

Public Energy no. 1 was basically a precursor to the dark sounds of "A shocking hobby", but I think, as i said, was just a small precursor to what was to follow. I didn't particularly like it...

...and as we've noted in the past, "Loudboxer" was pretty horrible.

That's just like Photek coming out with "risk vs. reward" and then coming out with the terrible "Solaris".

i agree on the Photek relationship...what's up with that? i guess like we talked before, there are moods that we go through that affect our musical output dramatically sometimes.

you noted in the past that LOUDBOXER was terrible, I don't think is horrible I just think, as I noted before, that it should have been released under a moniker.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

i am looking to get the ambient albums pappe and namlook did together. likewise with namlook you never know he has released some really great albums and some really bad ones as well.

well, when you release over 200 albums (that have been done either solo or with a group), you're going to have your good and bad ones.

"pp.nmlk" is a good one...you should check it out, and also the stuff that Paap did under his actual name Jochem Paap on FAX.

all i can say about Namlook is that i wish he followed his darkside and twistedness more frequently.

I'm going to have to agree with you there, or perhaps the type of music him and Bobby Bird did on the S.H.A.D.O. albums...
