Personal Story:

I was at a club in 1990 watching a band play in the basement section and ran into the promoter of the club. He was talking to a guy with a thick long beard who was wearing a Cowboy hat. I thought I recognized the guy but wasn't sure who he was. We started talking about the band playing and he asked me what I thought of them. I told them they sounded pretty cool but I wasn't familiar with their music. We talked for a few more minutes and I left after shaking his hand.

Later on the promoter came up to me again (I worked for him at the club at the time) and he asked me if I liked meeting Jello Biafra. I said, 'Holy shit! I thought I recognized him!'. He explained that he was there because the band on stage was recently signed to Alternative Tentacles and he was checking out their show. I'm actually glad I didn't know it was him because we ended up having a normal conversation instead of me possibly gushing and telling him how much I dug his work, etc.

I grew up in San Diego and have been listening to DK since 82 or so when a friend loaned me a single for Kill The Poor. They were one of a handful of Punk acts that I thought were truly talented.

random DK trivia.

i saw jello biafra performing a spoken word show before i heard my first DK tune (at least knowningly). i also came close to boo-ing him at one point for topping one of his rants with a really bad idea. although based on the reaction in the room i think i would have been hung and quartered for actually speaking my mind.
