Best/Your Favorite Art Tatum CDs?

i have some "best of" albums of his, but i want something a bit more substantial... are there any good box sets or individual recordings of his that particularly stand out in his discography?

Tatum is at his best solo. So, anything you find with him solo would be the first choice.

Classic Early Solos 1934-1937
Solos
Art Tatum 1932-1934
The Standard Transcriptions
Art Tatum 1934-1940
20 Century Piano Genius

Group
The Completge Capitol Recordings of Art Tatum
Art Tatum 1940-1944

There are two major box sets, which were released by Pablo, of later recordings. So, don't worry about duplication with the above.

Tatum was such a freak of nature on the piano, that he just would dominate anyone that played with him.

Of the Pablo Group Masterieces, I would recommend Vol 8, which includes Ben Webster. He is the only one that could really hang with Tatum in a group recording.

You can get Vol 8, as a single disc. It was remastered in the last few years. So, the sound is upgraded over the box set version.
