Wolf Eyes
I can't remember seeing them discussed much on here, what does everyone else think of them? I'm just asking, because I picked up their recent "Burned Mind" album, and I'm kind of edging towards them being potentially great, but just lacking something. They do a really brutal, twisted electronic assault, but seem to put just a little too much filler into their releases.
What do y'all think?

I'm going to have to get back to here, DF, seeing as how you've just brought them to my attention.
They seem pretty interesting though, so I'll definitely look into them.

I also got "Burned Mind" yesterday. I really like it, but I do see what Darkness Fish is saying about them lacking something, although I do plan on trying more of their albums.

Wof Eyes is great m'friend. As far as recordings go I'd say I enjoyed listening to the live cdrs they release (literally hundreds, take your pick) more than Burned Mind.

I had heard so much buzz bout these Michigan cats, so I had to finally do myself
the favor and listen to their latest. Honestly, this is why hype is shitty...either you
buy into it (like so much crappy but catchy hip-pop) or the music can't come close
to the expectation you've created from so many people loving the band.
Wolf Eyes' latest came down to the later for me. How can i really say it's missing
something? This is the configuration these guys love to do. As a drummer that plays
freespazz noisecore crap, I imagined riding the crest of breakbeats, blastbeats, and
hardcore jungle thru the heaping beached-whalelike mass of sound they create. It
felt not that organic to me, although i know they focus on almost exclusively analog
equipment...the sound felt like it has nowhere to go, really...like Merzbow. I want to
love that guy's music, but really, it's like one day of the year ONLY that you're feeling
the sound of STATIC mixed with blugeoning bass chaos!!! dig?
i'm calling the bluff on this hype on Wolf Eyes. sure they're wild live, very loud i'm sure,
but i'd rather see, say...Lightning bolt and dance my ass off to their wall of sound, or
chillout to some Freejazz, before i'm slaughtered by LOUDASS noise that's going nowhere.
just my humble opinion, some cats love to see that live, to be aurally assaulted! peace

I've only heard clips of Burned Mind, and from what I've heard I can understand some of the skepticism about this band, yet I think there is something special here. I'm sure there are more talented musician/composers in this genre, but Wolf Eyes seems to be taking the experimental noise sound to the streets. Amidst a mass of emo/punk/metal/garbage bands they find a space at subpop, where they continue to produce the music they want to. I think this is not just about how well their noise is produced, its about a group of guys from Michigan, recording sounds in some office building, and being recognized for their efforts. The songs I've heard, both live and from this album, are decent songs, but I think what takes Wolf Eyes the extra step is their "ethic" and attitude about the music.
That's my opinion anyway.

I personally am not understanding why this band is getting so much recognition...it seems to me like pretty mediocre noise/noise-rock that a lot of kids are saying they like so they can claim to be into noise...
Nothing special in my opinion.

Saw them live as well, but thought they were atrocious, but that kind of noise, which is hardly music anymore, isn't quite my cup of tea. will try that album one time more, but I'm already not really looking forward to it... you can just as well listen to a radiator or a defect air conditioning system, no?
