He has been there since the 16th. I posted this thread over a month ago, to give people in NY a heads up. And before you ask, this isn't my Frank post/thread. That is still for you to find.
The first night was the only performance of the trio. The last 3 nights, including tomorrow are with the Orchestra Human (Ubunto) Big Band. I don't know about this year, but last year they smoked.
Keep in mind Cecil's Big Bands are not always a success. It can be a performance, which will rock your world and leave you speechless or close to a disaster. Cecil is really at his best, in small groups or especially solo.

To be perfectly honest, I don't care if it sucks. I have never been to a concert of any kind in my entire life, and this is the perfect climate for me to go to one.

Ok, I am going to split this up, so that you don't end up skimming and missing something.
The eternal rebel kid in me understands, but the parent portion is really bothered by this comment.
You can tell your parents he is a winner of the Macarthur Genius Prize. They just don’t give that to anyone. Well there is the Ken Vandermark thing, but that’s a different story.
You could also mention that he and Bill Evans are the two most influential piano players in the last 45 years. While doing this, bring up that Evans is dead, and Cecil is 76.
Also, there will be no devil worshipping. However, Cecil might break out with his poetry reading in his usual "special reading" style.
Finally, you might mention that he is 76 once again, and there is only so long, that he can play in the manner he does, which can lead to his fingers bleeding.
Of course, I would leave out the bleeding portion.

From the NYTIMES:
CECIL TAYLOR BIG BAND, Iridium, 1650 Broadway at 51st Street, midtown, (212) 582-2121. Cecil Taylor, at 75 seemingly as vigorous as ever, has built the art of his pianism on technique and stamina in equal measure; his music avoids the narrative of song in favor of a vatic musical free verse full of clustered chords and flashing figures. (It is notated, though: you'll see a lot of sheet music.) Above all he is a great pianist, and you hear that intermittently in the dense swirl of his 16-piece big band. These affairs over the last decade or so have been wild, boisterous nights. Sets through Sunday night are at 8 and 10, with an 11:30 set tonight and tomorrow; cover charge is $32.50; minimum, $10. RATLIFF
There will be 2 sets. I would also make sure, that you're old enough to attend. Since I like being accurate, he wont turn 76 until March 15, but we are talking 23 days.

Geryon, should you manage your way into tomorrow's show, do realize that you will be required to post a 3-5 page review of your experience, to be posted in this forum within 24 hours of the performance. (( This does, of course, supersede any trivial homework assignments you might have. ))

I see you're still alive.
All I want to know, is did you give away your recordings for the 50th time?
One more thing, what is your estimate of the time frame before you go back to your normal handle. I am trying to see how close my choice in the RM board pool, happens to be.
Oh yea, there are also rumors about shaving your head, and starting your own Godspeed the Ruins cult.
The latest rumors are that the Numa Numa guy, is really you in deep extra super secret undercover disguise.
That this is all part of your Godspeed the Ruins cult work.
