Some help with music advice needed

Well its at about that point again where I've run out of new music to listen to. So some help would be appreciated with suggestions to new artists and albums.

Air
I love everything I've heard so I'll defintley be working on getting more stuff by Air. I think Talkie Walkie is such a fantastic piece of work I'd defintley like to discover artists with similar ideas.

Allman Brothers
I've got the greatest hits and live at filmore east but I was really just wondering what some of their biggest albums were aside from those two. I've also realized some of their stuff is more religious and slower, thats not really the Allman I'm looking for.

Black Label Society
I've got the album Stronger Than Death and I think its great. I'm not really a fan of most metal i.e. Pantera and what not mostly due to a distaste for the vocals, but I think BLS is pretty damn good. Zakk Wylde can do some crazy stuff with that guitar and the placement of his solo's into some of those songs is very well done.

Frank Sinatra
I think most can agree that In the Wee Small Hours is an incredible piece of work. I couldn't stop listening to it when I got it but sadly the only other Sinatra I've really heard, aside from the obvious Christmas songs and stuff, is Cycles. Cycles is great, not quite the same as In the Wee Small Hours, but I still enjoy it.

Interpol
Turn on the Bright Lights is a classic in my eyes. It has that appeal to the masses as well as being something new and creative. I don't think Antics can be classified in the same category as Bright Lights, but its got some decent tracks. But is there anything else that sounds much like Interpol?

Jeff Buckley
Grace is a classic, too bad theres nowhere else to go for more Buckley material. Can anyone else compare?

Led Zeppelin
Just throwing them up here cause damn their good! Probably one of my favorite bands ever.

Pearl Jam
I've got most of their collection already, but one album I recently picked up has stuck out in particular and that is No Code, as a whole Pearl Jam hasn't seemed to have done much else like it and thats ashame. But any other artists strike similarities?

Queens of the Stoneage
Don't quite have all their stuff but I'm working on it, what I've heard I think is great. So far I have Songs for the Deaf and Rated R.

R.E.M.
What a lovely group, their sound has a bit of range and I'm slowly working on collecting most of their stuff but Out of Time and Up have really turned me into a big fan. I think Me in Honey is such a great track on so many levels.

Radiohead
Great band but I think they've gotten a little too much praise but thats another thread all in itself. OK Computer is probably my favorite, with The Bends at a close second. Airbag EP is pretty damn good.

Red Hot Chili Peppers
I love these guys but all their stuff is almost on that played out level. I'm a big fan of BSSM, One Hot Minute, Mothers Milk, and Freaky Styley. Can't say I'm really a fan of any of the newer stuff.

Smashing Pumpkins
Great music in my eyes, or should I say ears, but either way there isn't much by them I don't like. Mellon Collie, Siamese Dream and Pisces Iscariot are probably my favorites.

Stone Roses
I think the selftitled is a very nice piece of work, not really sure where to go from here though.

Super Furry Animals
I have Rings Around the World, Phantom Power and Mwng and I think their all great. Any other artists that are similar?

U2
I haven't picked up the new album but I am defintley a big fan of The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby.

Jazz
I've been playing Kind of Blue and Stan Getz - Jazz Samba a lot recently and I think their very nice pieces of work, any advice as to where to go for more Jazz?

Well this isn't the first time I've done this, but if your reading these words thanks for making it this far. I realize it got kinda lengthy but I listen to a lot of music and theres nothing like new music. I'd prefer more kind of reasons as to why I'd like an artist or album then just simply putting it out there but hey any suggestions are welcome. Thanks guys for your help!! !

I would suggest on picking up Radioheads Hail to the Theif, imo its by far their best. And why not try some new jazz/rock bands such as Medeski Martin and Wood, or Vida Blue.

As you like R.E.M., why not try some older music which influenced them: Big Star, and The Byrds.

Well, for advice on R.E.M. I'd say get Automatic for the People and Murmur first and foremost. Those are their best. They're my favorite band and I've got pretty much all their CDs. Their latest release was a bit of a disappointment but it's not a bad album. Hard for me to think of R.E.M. as having a bad album anyway.

You gotta get U2's How To Dismantle and Atomic Bomb. Best release of 2004, IMO. Can't really go wrong with U2. The only release that was rather weak was October and I still manage to find things on that album that are great as well.

Jazz is such a great genre of music. I'm sort of just dabbling in it and my faves so far are Miles Davis and Chick Corea.

I've got Big Stars #1 Record/Radio City and its good, not a favorite but I do enjoy the occasional listen.

I have Hail to the Thief aswell and yes it is defintley very good, has not gotten as much playtime as the others I listed but to each their own.

I'll give a try to that U2 album, I know my mother has a copy so I'll be sure to give it a listen next time I am home.

As for R.E.M. I've been meaning to listen to Automatic for the People, will check out Murmur aswell.

For the other artists do you guys have any albums to listen to?

I am sure, that I saw posts by my Pops, about several of the groups or genres of music, you're asking about.

alright i'll give this a shot with the ones i'm most familiar with.

Air
personally i thought talkie walkie was a dissapointment. i knew they were planning on going back to a poppier style like moon safari, but TW sounds like they just followed the same safari trail without really spreading out. as for similar bands zero7 is like a UK version of Air with a slightly poppier r&b feel. hooverphonic is also really good but a little on the darker side.

Led Zeppelin
you owe it to yourself to at least check out dread zeppelin. imagine if you will, a led zep cover band that redoes all the classics, raggae style, with not just an elvis impersonator doing the vocals, but a 300lb tortelvis. robert plant himself prefers their version of 'your time is gonna come' to their original (i'm not joking ).

Queens of the Stoneage
KYUSS. most definitely check out kyuss. 'blues for the red sun' is a classic stoner rock album, if you're digging the queens i can't see why you wouldn't like josh homme's first big band. 'welcome to sky valley' is another great album but i really don't like how they kept the album to 4 tracks where the individual songs are apparent (and listed as such on the cd case). nebula is another good band in that same style, the best album i've heard by them is 'to the center'. and you can't really talk about stoner rock without mentionning monster magnet and their 'dopes to infinity' album.

Red Hot Chili Peppers
311 and early fishbone are probably the closest bands i can think of to the early chili peppers. for some reason jane's addiction usually gets tossed in as well, probably because they both started getting big around the same time. i quite enjoyed 311's self titled and 'transistor' cds never really heard anything else. never owned any fishbone but i heard some good tunes. anything by the original jane's addiction lineup is gold (haven't heard 'strays' so i can't comment). you might also want to check out mr. bungle's self-titled debut also but that one is a little on the heavier side of the loopy funk.

Jazz
stan getz's 'the jazz samba encore!' is tied as my favorite jazz album out there. never could get into 'kind of blue' i'll have to try again when i get back to my vinyl. i'm still more of a passive listener when it comes to jazz, in that i don't hunt out nearly as much as i should, but i do dig that samba stuff. antonio carlos jobim is pretty much king of the style, he wrote most if not all of those tunes on those getz albums and plays guitar on a fair amount of the songs also. charlie byrd, the other big name on that first samba record has a lot of good stuff under his name too. you might also like ernest ranglin he's this raggae jazz guitarist, really good stuff on his 'below the bassline' album, he also played on a few st. germain tracks. st. germain has some good jazzy stuff too, a bit more of an electronic feel though, but it's not a bad thing. if you dig the slightly more electronic stuff check out jaga jazzist, xploding plastix, koop, and amon tobin

hmm it's past noon. i really need to get to sleep now

I agree with you on the statement about Air. Talkie Walkie doesn't show much progression from Moon Safari (which I might add is better than Talkie Walkie to me), but I only recently picked up Talkie Walkie, that'd probably be the most logical explination as to why I put it up here. The only other Air album I've heard is 10,000 Hz. I think its a nice piece of work but as a whole more sluggish then the others, the first three tracks are some of their best work I'd like to say. Is there another album I'm forgetting? Amazon seems to list only an EP and some singles aswell as the Virgin Suicides soundtrack, a film I have never seen. But anyhow, I think its the song structuring that gets me on Talkie Walkie, I think it flows very well. I think I'll give another try to 10,000.

Dread Zeppelin
I saw that album on Amazon but didn't really feel inclined to check it out, probably because of the bizarness of it. Will try it though.

Will definltey give a try to all that Queens of the Stoneage recomendations since I do like their work. Out of curiousity what tie does David Ghol have into QOTSA?

Janes Addiction, used to listen to them pretty heavily along with Porno for Pyros, Can't get into them much anymore though for some reason. I downloaded 311's greatest hits the other day and found some alright tracks, guess I'll check out the two you listed.

As far as the Jazz goes, will defintley be looking into all of it. I've got a couple albums by Amon Tobin, pretty nice sounding stuff right there.

Thanks once again panbient, your time and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Grohl played drums for the last album. I believe he subbed in because their normal drummer was in rehab. Please correct me if i'm wrong. I've also heard they've broken up? is that true?
