if you've got ANY expectations on audioslave (based on what you know from SG and RATM) do yourself a favor and try to forget them before listening to the band. they ranked as the biggest musical dissappointment i've ever heard.

Yup, Audioslave is pretty disappointing. I'd rather listen to one of the original bands. If you liked Superunknown, then check out Down on the Upside (their next effort). It's more akin to classic rock and has its own charm.

Calexico is incredible, please please please I need more suggestions like this!

The Starlight Mints are pretty good, but the album The Dream That Stuff is Made of (or whatever it is) isn't THAT great as a hole to me. I do enjoy it and I like how it was made but I find myself skipping over tracks.

It seems as though you're getting plently of recommendations but here are some places you can find more:

Check out Audioscrobbler which recommends music based on what you listen to. Rate Your Music does a similar thing but requires a little more effort up front.

Also look at Music Plasma which asks you to put in an artist and then recommends similar acts.

Lastly, my website (see below) is an attempt to wade through the tons of records reviewed every month and pick out ten good ones. It covers all genres though, so you won't like everything.
