Where did the music videos go?

this rant brought to you by MTV Opinion...

What happened to good music videos? They all seem to be rap garbage, full of unattainable wealth and vulgar self-indulgence, or porn vids featuring Britney (or one of the 15 million other brain-dead sex symbol marketing ploys). Any art or passion that once was present in music videos is dead or very hard to find.

What makes a good music video, and which artist(s) make your favorites?

Personally, I like silly videos that make me laugh, like the Beastie Boys.

Now I know why I don't watch MTV any more.

As for what makes a good music video?

I don't know but I love the music videos the Talking Heads made in the early days of MTV. Also like R.E.M., Beastie Boys, Will Smith, U2 and while I really don't care for their music I rather like Duran Duran videos in an artsy sort of way. I also really like Madonna's Like A Prayer video.

In thinking back I suppose I like videos with humor or a message or that are artfully done and make me think.

because 99.9% of music videos are made to promote the image of the artist instead of coinsiding with the song itself. IMO no music video should have the artists singing or playing instruments for the whole fucking thing, what a waste of time....and people actually get paid for that shit.
