chart talk

i was thinking where to write this...in here or in 'music industry' but i think here is the place. i have to apologise now, i can write with capital letters becouse my 'shift' doesn't work on my computer. pretty strange...
i won't make a review of all the music charts i'll just write a few things that i think are interesting

-one of the best dance tracks a heared in a while is k-maro-femme like you. it was number 1 in france, belgium and switzerland and now it's making it's way in the german charts at number 13. its in french-english, which makes it pretty cool.

-wham in at number 20 in the german chart with 'last cristmas'

-band aid 20-last christmas. to me the promotion for this song was really strange. they made it to number 1 in the uk, an it looks that was all they cared about. in most european countries a song takes some time before going to the top. so it would have been a good idea to launch it a few weeks before christmas. in some countries the song just entered the charts now, the week after christmas.

I don't pay too much attention to charts but I notice what's playing when I surf through the music channels...Ashlee Simpson is getting airplay so that just goes to show you that the sheep are being controlled by the corporations. It's been a long time since the consumer had a remote affect upon what gets churned-out. The only way that they coould affect anything these days is completely halt the purchasing of crap...then the record companies would have to ask 'what do you want?' instead of perpetuating the mulch...but we know that isn't going to happen.

I think those French *slash* English songs are getting into fashion ... well I am from Belgium and we also had Nadiya - c'est parti here. But I'm just wondering how long they're going to be able to keep us interested.

Elvis Scores 19th UK No 1 with 'Jailhouse Rock'

LONDON (Reuters) - Elvis Presley was number one again in Britain 27 years after his death with his iconic hit "Jailhouse Rock," the Official U.K. Charts Company said on Sunday.

The rock and roll standard, a U.K. chart-topper in 1958, was reissued to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Presley's Jan. 8 birth and is his 19th U.K. number one.

The number was written by songwriting duo Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who composed the Presley hit "Hound Dog" and many other pop classics.

It was the title song of Presley's third film "Jailhouse Rock" in which he played an ex-convict who becomes a teenage rock star.

Among the week's five other new entries, "The Number of the Beast" from British heavy metal band Iron Maiden hit the charts at No. 3. Another anniversary reissue, the 1982 rock anthem was released to mark 25 years since Iron Maiden's formation.

British pop duo Erasure returned to the charts at No. 4 with "Breathe" from their upcoming album "Nightbird," while flamboyant American act Scissor Sisters entered at No. 5 with "Filthy/Gorgeous."

The other new entries were Dana Rayne's "Object of My Desire" at No. 7 and "Cutt off" by British indie band Kasabian at No. 8.

On the albums chart, Scissor Sisters' self-titled release, the biggest album of 2004, rose one place to No. 1, sending Green Day's "American Idiot" down to No. 3. The Killers' "Hot Fuss" jumped three places to No. 2. Maroon5's "Songs About Jane" and Franz Ferdinand's self-titled release rounded out the top five.

Yes unfortunately the majority of 'consumers' listen to that crap and it is what they want, not those who actually pay attention to what they are listening to whom the music industry bigwigs give a flying fuck about. $$$ > art
