When The Levee Breaks

The huge thundering sound of Bonham creating his mastery in When The Levee Breaks is a sonic marvel to me. I have heard this song so many times that I couldn't give an accurate estimate of the number but it has recently become one of my favorite Led Zep songs again. The droning harp eerily crying out over the tsunami of bottom-end created by the drums, bass and guitar is the essence of what makes up perfect dynamics and tasteful musical contrast in my mind.

i remember reading something about a tweaked out drum setup for the recording of that track. something about tin foil lining the inside of the bass drum and unconventional mic placement. that along with the squeaky bass drum pedal which has plagued page's ears ever since the recording session (but i've never noticed it)

I am sure, that Pops mentioned something about it being recorded in some huge hall in the castle, which they were staying in for the recording. I think the place was called Hedley Grange or something similar. That they recorded most of the drum tracks for LZ IV in that hall.

I've never noticed that either but I'll be listening for it now I just know it!

Okay
I joined this forum just to tell you that you need to do your research
The importance of the drum sound has nothing to do with tin foil
WTF?

Led Zeppelin IV was rehearsed and partly recorded in Headley Grange a two story mostly stone building that was built in 1975 in the village of headly in eastern hampshire england

Tracks like Black Dog And Rock N' Roll were perfect for the acoustics of the building
For "When The Levee Breaks" Jimmy page told John Bonham to set his drum kit in the stone stairway of the building resulting in a sound that no studio has ever been able to replicate

You only joined this board to post in a thread that no one has posted in for two years, just so you could belatedly repeat what I already posted almost 22 months ago?

If you're going to start correcting others, you also might want to get your facts straight. Here is a hint, you're off by 200 years.
