Nice. I just bought Lawrence - Spark EP and I'm really loving it. I've also heard a couple other tracks, and a bunch of samples.

yeah, I just recently heard that EP...his "Absence of blight" on Dial records (another great label in this thread) was a great album last year.

Also, check out Landesvatter's "Lava" album. I think you'd like it.

Basic Channel (I guess could also be considered dub) is good label for some minimal house music...along with all the stuff mentioned above.

As I've gotten into house music a lot lately, mostly of the French variety, this does sound intriguing.

I realize there are quite a few albums listed here which can be classified as good, but what would be a good starting place for the genre in terms of accessibility?

It's funny that you say this because for so many years I looked at house and techno and all the other 4/4 beat genres as being "boring dance music"... but as I got older, I started to recognize the intricacy of those types of beats, even though they followed a basic pattern.

As minimal as some of these artists are, I think we recognize that they are more than minimal; they focus on the simple matters, but expand our audible vocabulary beyond that "untsa" beat.

I really enjoy the albums by Trentmoller, Mathew Dear, Marco Passarani, Claro Intelecto, etc, when normally I would see these guys as "dance".

It's great to see Equinox recognize the less complex! I think there's a song title on Tiny Reminders by Two Lone Swordsmen called "The Devil's in the Details", which fits this perfectly.

ps. I'm always here, just lurking.

pps. my new fav label is mikrolux. it's like smooth jazz for electronic lovers.

well quit lurking so damn much and post more, I need someone to talk with

...and as I was talking to Just Blaze the other night...the electronic scene has shifted to more of a dancey form anyway it seems. You have your noisy drone music with processed guitar or your idm artists that have tried to transform themselves into dancefloor heroes.

Since you like Claro Intelecto, you'd probably enjoy everything on the Modern Love label or Ai label.

P.S. that post you quoted was over 3 years old , but I still feel the same way.

holy crap, something familiar about this...

I've been working on picking up the entire Basic Channel catalog. FXHE puts out some really interesting house music, particularly the Oasis releases. For a while James Holden and Border Community were really hot, but the quality has declined substantially since then. Surgeon put out some really great, but very hard-edged techno, particularly Force + Form and Screw the Roses. It's not at all in that glitchy minimal/micro vein, but Carl Craig and Moodymann are also top notch dance producers without which no collection is complete.
