Perhaps a lot of them need to show how people can break away from their environment (as Ice-T occasionally does(did!)) and do something positive with their life ('Escape From The Killing Fields'). Or depict events in a way that doesn't glamourise the lifestyle, as Naughty By Nature did on 'Everything's Gonna Be Alright'.
