Arrow Top 5 European Jazz Albums

Obviously, Jazz is regarded as a primarily American art form, but there have been plenty of amazing artists to come from Europe. That said, what are your 5 favorite Jazz albums released by European artists?

And here I was hoping to see some names I'm not familiar with...

All of your "somethings" pretty much took care of any albums I would've mentioned, so I suppose I'll have to go with the first 5 live Ganelin Trio LPs...

Oh yea #5 is something by The Ganelin Trio.

You didn't ask for a list of extra triple secret recordings.

Well, fire away if you'd like.

May as well make use of this thread since it's probably going to have a short life!

Honestly, one if not all 4 of those are going to make any list of Europeans.

some of these are not extra triple secret but you should give a listen, if you haven't.

Gianni Gebbia, Misha Mengelberg, John Butcher, Mats Gustafsson, Paul Dunmall, Simon H. Fell, Frank Gratkowski, Urs Leimgruber, John Stevens, Irène Schweizer, Alan Wilkinson, Trevor Watts, Giorgio Gaslini, Albert Mangelsdorff, Fred Van Hove, Howard Riley, Sergey Kuryokhin, Louis Sclavis.

Eddie Prevost Quartet's Continuum is always fantastic.

Larry Stabbins/Howard Riley/Tony Wren/Mark Sanders-Four In The Afternoon is absoutley beautiful.

Many Paul Dunmall's recordings' are worth the time & money.

Trevor Watt's Moire Music is always a delight to hear.

That is all I will post for now.

Off the top of my head, with a couple Sam Adams Double Bocks to ward off the December wind...

Vienna Art Orchestra - 'From No Time to Rag Time'. This band blows me away, in a fun, forward thinking stylee.

(did someone say) Ganelin Trio ... - 'Ancora De Capo' (1&2). There's a flash of blinding light from deepest darkest Soviet gulagistan.

Pierre Dorge - 'Brikama'. These guys can't tan but they're into it, big time. Johnny Dyani helps.

(did someone say) Louis Sclavis ... - 'Quartet'. Jazz slash new music. Lots to sink your teeth into.

John Surman, (does England count?)... - 'Such Winters of Memory'. Mmmmm, what can I say? I'm a sucker for the arrangements / atmosphere. Karin Krog's vocals take it over the top.

All of these artists have deep catalogs with other potential 'favorites' within.

Tip o' the cap to... Mike Westbrook, Jan Garbareck, Dino Bette Van Der Noot, and that nutty dude from Denmark (or the low countries?).
