Lately thats all Ive been listening to, mostly IDM however becasue I dont really have anything that Dark Ambient.

edit: Oh just saw the poll, do you mean How do you listen to it?

I listen to it alone normally because none of the people I know are really into it except for 1 and Im not sure if he really likes it or if he just says so because he always acts really indifferent to it.

Alone, of course. Why would you sit around, in a group, and discuss dark ambient music? I don't see you the use in it

It requires too much attention a lot of the time to listen to with other people. If there's an album I know will be good I'll put it on while my fiancee is in the room. Otherwise I'll just listen on my own.

I don't know anyone who likes IDM/ambient so I had to answer alone.

This is what you do on this forum, I don't see anything wrong about doing it in real time with actual people.

I have two friends who evolved their taste in IDM with me...shared experiences count for so much

It really is difficult to play as any sort of "background music". In fact I find myself getting pissed off if someone starts talking over it, something which I dislike about myself. It does mean of course that we have a somewhat bizarre social life....but we're satisfied....any future girlfriend would have to be screened to at least put up with it....I haven't met a single female who likes IDM, and I'm being honest here, not sexist...

The only people that I'm aware of are Sean out of Autechre being married to Mira Calix...imagine how their offspring will turn out!

My pals like Namlook, old AE, Orb, Dub Tractor, Pole, B12, Hawtin, Amon Tobin, Biosphere, Speeedy J and I play those to them...but when they get home and they begin to talk over the music, i just want them to leave and listen to the music alone.

IDM/ambient + spoken word = insult

there's nothing "wrong" with it per se, but would it really make sense in real time? Ambient music is all about emotion and taking it all in, or to "sleep" with. Why would you want a bunch of friends to come over to discuss dark ambient/ambient music in real time? What could you really say about it?

"Oh! that was a nice change!"

I like when I listen to music with someone who is kinda feeling the same way about what we are listening to.

rock and rollers are always discussing loudly about rock and roll and it can be fun but also extremely boring, pointless and disturbing.

ambient is a choice for silence.

IDM is a choice for hyperthhinking.
