If this discussion keeps up, we may need Syd to change the thread title...

Considering that Syd, I and maybe a few others know who The Pretty Things are, this wasn't meant to last that long.

Now even Britney Spears' fans have heard of: The Chairman of the Board, Old Blue Eyes, The Voice (ok, not those nicknames ), but Sinatra is pretty well known. As well as a lot more interesting then, The Pretty Things.

The Pretty Things thread title, probably had posters thinking, that this was going to be a hot chicks picture thread.

What I think is interesting about The Pretty Things is how they started out as a sort of macho blues Stones 12 X 5 sort of thing, went all completely BATSHIT Psychedelic then ended up sort of doing the Stones bit again. I think they even might still Tour. I think they still play S.F. Sorrow or something but I'm assuming they are sort of 'a bar band' again.

not that there's anything wrong with that.
Still, they really sound like completely different bands.

Back to The Chairman of the Board, it was Gordon Jenkins who did the arrangements and conducted.

SF Sorrow is one of the very best psych albums to come out of the UK in the psychedelic era IMHO, I think it's considered to be the first example of a "Rock Opera"

Cool

Batshit Psychedelic? ! I adore this band too. I think I may prefer SF Sorrow for its nuttiness and far-reaching trendsetting (listen to those vocals on the Bracelets of bone song and tell me Queen didn't base their entire vocal technique on that!), plus quality songs. 'Baron Saturday''s drum delay break makes me think of a lot of MASONNA's tracks!

But Parachutes sounds much more immensely beautiful to me with a hell of a lot of depth in its songwriting. I like its gloomier sound. As for 'October 26' released around that time... WOW!
