I think Eminem has reached his peak and begun the decline. He hit the scene as a controversial white rapper, and that's his image, but he's going to eventually run out of famous people to make fun of. Until then, I'm going to keep listening, cause he's funnier than hell.

Unfortunately for Eminem, im pretty sure he hit his peak with the Marshall Mathers LP, 2 albums ago, and i doubt many people would disagree about how good that album is. i just think he's become so stuck in a rut after that, trying to recreate it that his last 2 albums have been a steady decline.

I agree. Sorry, I didn't mean he reached his peak recently. Trying to recreate his SSLP and MMLP is exactly what he's doing.

I disagree.. all his albums have been different, he isn't trying to go back to SSLP or MMLP, he's trying to evolve. He's just doing a shitty job at it.
SSLP was his best as far as I'm concerned.
SSLP > MMLP > Infinite > Eminem Show > Encore
None of those albums are bad with the exception of Encore.

How does Encore show any evolution? It's just watered down and seems to be more directed at a younger audience then his previous work. Apparently he's planning on releasing a new album later this year that will be more 'raw' and what his more rap appreciative fans will like.

agreed. half the songs on encore are re-hashed songes from TES or MMLP... Examples:
Mockingbird=Hallie's Song
Just Lose It=Without Me=Real Slim Shady=My Name Is
Mosh= White America
Puke=Kim
i could go on...

Just cause you don't like the changes he's making doesn't mean his work isn't changing. When I say evolve I just mean change, I don't mean it's getter better or worse, just.. different. All of his albums have been different that I've heard:
Infinite was just a bunch of random punchlines over shotty production with a bad rip off of Masta Ace's flow. Slim Shady LP was a bunch of drug induced stories with a few serious songs too. Marshall Mathers LP was basically shock rap where he lashed out at gays, pop stars, his mom, his wife, all just to get a reaction basically. The Eminem Show took a more serious note, with songs about his childhood, his career, etc. It was just an overall more serious album than any of his previous albums. Encore, well I haven't heard the whole album, but I've heard a lot of the songs, and it seems to be him basically just proving that he can put out anything and sell records. I mean he doesn't really talk about anything in particular. It seems to be an album of mostly pop songs with rap songs being the minority.
May not be the kind of changes you hoped for, sure as hell isn't the changes I hoped for, but changes nonetheless. If you ask me he's doing anything BUT trying to go back to his SSLP and MMLP days. Back then nobody took him serious, they looked at him like the clown of hip hop who makes funny songs here and there, but now everyone wants him to go back? He tried to get off on a more serious note with The Eminem Show, that's where he left his comedy-rap days of SSLP and MMLP behind him.

You seem to be going only by what the songs talk about, there are other factors to a song besides the lyrical content.
1) Mocking bird is nothing like Halie's song besides the subject matter, as an overall song they are completely different.
2) Yeah, but that's not trying to move backwards, that's just marketability. Been that way since My Name Is, nothing new.
3) Yeah.
4) No way. Yeah the song is about his relationship, that's the only similarity. You have to look at songs for more than what they talk about. As an overall song, Kim and Puke are completely different. I could listen to Kim and then listen to Puke and feel like I just listened to two very different songs.
