Carsten Nicolai (aka Noto, Alva Noto) & Frank Bretschneider (aka Komet)

My appreciation for these 2 guys excede most artists today. They've been making experimental electronic music for over 10 years yet most people don't know of them. Their label, Raster-Noton is even more obscure and this is what I am here for. They need some type of exposure

The albums Transform and Prototypes (on Mille Plateaux) are probably the most accessible for Nicolai, while Bretschneider's "Curve" and "Rand" are on the same label.

Their Raster-Noton works are a bit more experimental (if you can say that) and would recommend them to anyone.

Their work as the group Produkt is also something that should be looked at.

If you like Biosphere's "Autour de la Lune", you'd love Herve Boghassian's "Mouvements".

Finally, if you can get a copy of Alva Noto's song "Party Plasibenpuis (for Rune Lindblad)" please do it!

expose away, because nikolai is one of two musicians i wuv the most.
the second one is, whowouldaguessed, thomas knak.

simple math, play along:
c.n. + t. k. = opto.
and they've had a new album released few months ago. '2nd's the name. dunno when was the '1st' released though. unless they're reffering to 'opto files'. which wasn't the proper album. it was an ep. which would suggest that there is no '1st' as such.
which makes all of this title stuff rather funny.

np. opto - 10.45 am

Alva Noto does need more attention! I haven't heard of Komet. Takes note to check out "Curve" & "Rand".

Opto Files is much better than 2nd, I believe. And you should list that Thomas Knak goes by the name of Opiate. Also, Alva is Nicolai, not Nikolai, that may confuse people with the artist that goes under the name Nikolai which also records as Erast

Sorry, i'm anal.

I went to the raster-noton website and I love their CD packagings. The mp3 samples sound... interesting as well. I'll have to get a couple of songs from slsk and listen to them properly for a while before I get any sort of opinion on this.

I have a feeling that that's the only Goem that you would like. I still can't warm up to it, at all.
