"The Rose and the Briar: Death, Love and Liberty in the American Ballad" is a collection of stories, essays, comics and drawings that examine how and why the ballad has become such a part of the American experience. The book looks at why certain ballads have stayed in our imagination and have endured for hundreds of years in our culture. Featuring prominent writers, poets, singers and artists, this book seeks to address a traditional art form that tells stories in a uniquely American way. Featuring noted rock music critic Greil Marcus, novelist Steve Erickson, and singer/writer Anna Domino, part of the band "Snakefarm."
