Sacred Harp

Choral music.

Who knows what I'm talking about? I hardly do.

Are we talking about all the way back to Guillaume Dufay, Johannes Ockeghem, or Josquin Desprez? Possibly Bach, Heinrich Schütz Handel, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Thomas Tallis, Henry Purcell, Mozart, Monteverdi's, Beethoven, Verdi, Gabriel Fauré, Brahms, etc... etc... etc...

I'm going to get some more info from my friend back in State College, PA.

The Sacred Harp people have this strange notation system.

It's not related to Church Polyphony (Palestrania, Machaut)...I emailed my friend...he got a hold of some sheet music and has experienced it first hand.

Appalachian folk music.

I might have to get my eyes checked. I could have sworn that was Sacred Heart.

Are you sure you didn't edit that title when I wasn't looking?

I've been trying to find a place sort of nearby where I can go see it. It's not always a religious thing...some people just do it because they like the art form.

I want to learn a little about it first.

If you know anything about it, let me know. I'll do some surfing.
