my answer: his tone

sure, all the other stuff being said I agree with but it's the sound the guy gets more than anything.
It's this pure pure sound.
regardless of what his band is doing around him, elegant and simple or loud and complex, out comes this pure perfect sound.

It either does it for you or it doesn't.
To me, it's one of the best things I've ever put in my ears.
