I grew up in Atwater. I live in Buffalo now because housing is cheaper and we don't have to work 10 hour a day slave jobs to survive. My girlfriend and I will prolly be back in 2-3 years after all the worthless drunks here start really getting to us.
I left right before Amoeba opened. I think it replaced Aaron's, right? Or is that still there?

Well, L.A. needs a good earthquake. That'll knock some of the loose bolts back to the East.

wait... lemme get out of the way first. no, i wouldn't wish for that... ever. but i grew up here in L.A. and have watched it grow steadily from a thriving metropolis to something like the 'star trek' episode where there's no more room left on that planet. in the 1980's, as i recall, we had some actor president guy who thought it would be a good idea to devastate our immigration laws with the stoke of his pen, and we had our own tsunami right here. since then it's been mostly people looking to make it in the biz, you know. they come from colleges in the east that specialize in turning self-absorbed brats into educated adults, and flock to hollywood, a town that specializes in turning educated adults into self-absorbed brats. and basically that translates into an army of hummers and escalades that park across 2 spaces and don't yeild to pedestrians. but entertainment has always been our industry, so i suppose i should be used to it by now. /rant

They put ameoba next to the cinerama dome on sunset. it's a nice sized place, shaped like an airplane hangar with a huge barrel ceiling. aaron's is still around - over there on la brea.

But this thread clearly states it's about Composers who aren't the 'big 6' - which doesn't include holst?

right now i'm quite obsessed with Charles Ives, his fourth symphany was amazing, and "three quarter tone pieces" is amazing.

I'm still listening to all of the "basic" classical composers, but here's my rough favorites list thus far (excluding BIG SIX)
Frédéric Chopin
Claude Debussy (I even digged his spoken word album )
John Cage
Igor Stravinksy !!!!!!
Phillip Glass (I only have Einstein On The Beach, but I think its brilliant... I was surprised by Roivas' opinion of him)
Antonín Dvořák
Steve Reich
Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (Surprised I didn't see it anywhere else)
Arnold Schoenberg
Antonio Vivaldi (Bravisimo! )
