Funky chord progressions?

Any suggestions for funk-based chord progressions?

Basic obvious ones are Em7 A7

In funk you get a lot of 7s and add9s I seem to find

i enjoy 9ths quite a bit. i think i overuse them, but they certainly work nicely when reading lead sheets. moving chromatically within an octave is a nice progression, particularly in jazz.

I like going from a D9 upto a G9 and comping like crazy and doing all those slides and slurs off the beat. Like autpt says too, going chromatically from the D9 to the G9 to the other way sounds cool too.

personally i like these chord shapes when i want to get really funky (i don't know the names) just slide the shape up and down the neck as needed

e-(5)------------
B--5-----7-----
G--5-----7-----
D--X-----6-----
A--7-----7-----
E--5------------

First one is an Am if you replaced the x with a 5 it would be am7 the 2nd one is E9(no 5th)

thanks keef. i knew the first one was a variation on the Eminor chord shape but i generally mute the D string while i'm playing that shape. had no clue what the second one was though
