The doves?>

Has anyone heard of the new band "the doves" and if you have what do you think of them. Also anyone like coldplay or pilate? If you like their sound and have any other suggestions let me know. I'm really into it.

New? Did they break up and re-form? Anyway I think they're a really good band without the usual Coldplay comparison. As far as the most recent material is concerned then I prefer Doves. The first Doves album is better in my opinion because there's a lot more diversity in that album. Even so thier best tracks probably come from Last Broadcast like "Words" and "There Goes The Fear".

ithink you meant "... I prefer Lost Souls", their first album.

Doves are an excellent band, severely underated and/or unrecognized. Lost Souls and The Last Broadcast are two of the best albums of the decade so far. when ifirst heard "There Goes The Fear" ithought it would be a huge single and would make a huge name for them- iwas sadly mistaken. ahwell, ihav to start resigning myself to the fact that a lot of the greatest bands from both Canada and the UK are juste never gonna play over in the States and achieve that highest level of commercial success. worth checking out too are their b-sides, most of which hav been compiled on the b-side compilation Lost Sides.

some suggested listening for someone who already enjoys Doves, Coldplay, Pilate:

Blur
Jeff Buckley
The Dears
Interpol
Joy Division/New Order
Radiohead
The Smiths/Morrissey
Spiritualized®
Travis
U2
The Verve/Richard Ashcroft

What I meant was, compared to Coldplay I prefer Doves. Parachutes was better than either Doves album but A Rush of Blood to the Head was really disappointing. I do prefer Lost Souls to Last Broadcast since you mention it though. I think Elbow should be on that list also.
