I've been producing for about a year now. I still suck. Don't put enough time into it.

Anyone who gets out of the mad-scientist phase probably isn't worth listening to.

if you're ambition is to be on Warp, you might want to quit now. Honestly, I think they've gone to shit. Look at other labels, please. Warp has gone indie.

to make it to warp you better be doing hip hop right now.

they are hundreds of labels printing or posting mp3 online, it's a matter of style and sound quality for me.

in therms of having your music heard, the best choice is to post your work on a page that is constantly visited . nobody is making money by selling cd,s or vinyls, playing live is what could help your paying some bills.

where can i hear your stuff?

Depends what you're after.

I get my first royalty cheque in January, and it'll pay for a few nights out hopefully, and if you are Aaron Funk and have 15 releases out then you probably can pay the bills on CD sales.

I did make more money gigging, but you HAVE to be lucky with that. There's venue hire, PA hire, Lights hire and then there's all the nightmare of promotion.

I'm just happy I have a job and don't have to worry about music for money.

I'd say the best way to get your stuff heard without releasing a CD is to get in touch with a netlabel. there's a lot out there now and as they promote, you get the promotion they do for their site, "free", so to speak.

kikapu.com and observatoyonline.org are fairly good.

But are u making tunes for cash, fame and success or just doing it for a hobby?

I do it for a hobby really. I think that you have to decide to turn pro and work sort of 9-5 just making tunes to be any good. I mean that's wot all the pros do do't they? You just can't compete for experience with a full time job around your neck too....

It took Keef 15 years, but if he decided say 10 years ago to jack all else in and take the gamble and do it full time, god only knows what sort of stuff he'd be producing right now.....
