How Dizzee Rascal lost my respect.
Well, it wasnt like i was buying his CDs, or could even listen through one of his tracks before, but he wasnt on the official "this guys a wanker" list. He is now.
Extract from Q magazine*, November;
"Throw away the dictionary - I've got this word, "overstand". When you understand something, you're staying beneath it. You've got to overstand things. Like if you dont "overstand" money, you'll let it consume you".
Harmless enough you may say. But for this, he claims invention of this word. Rastafarians invented the concept of "overstanding", and it features on lots of roots reggae songs, even Bob Marley numbers i think. You would think Mr. Rascal would credit the generation just above him for the use of their culture, but no, garages superiority complex strikes back. Oh well.
* Yeah, i know ive said i dont like these magazines, but there almost the only UK cultural fix i can get here in Japan!
