Altough I love Tiny Dancer, I think Piano man hits harder and has lyrics that connect to you.

Well, you're asking me which is the better song. That's a total picture, not just lyrics or just music. "Piano Man" has a stronger lyric with great storytelling, and is not bad musically. But "Tiny Dancer" has a more intricate overall musical structure that is very well crafted and even somewhat innovative for its time. The lyric, while flawed, is very engaging and has more haunting images than the more straight-forward storyline of "Piano Man". I give "Tiny Dancer" the nod for those reasons.

You brought to my attention my error. So, which between the two is your favorite.

My favorite? Wow, I'm not sure I can pick between them. I really like both songs a lot. But I do consider "Tiny Dancer" to be technically the best song of the two.

Madman Across the Water is pretty much my favorite of the Elton John albums, and I could probably never hear Billy Joel again and be really happy. I did once have a higher interest in each artist, but then I turned ten years old. I then went in a much, much different direction than these guys did

I have heard both songs at least one hundred million times too many, but I'd still take "Tiny Dancer". I probably like more Billy Joel albums overall, and hey, he was the common bard within my nuclear family, but so much of his stuff is rather painful to the ears now, and "Piano Man" is near the top of that list.
