Arrow Your Top Celtic Artist

If you were made to listen to only one Celtic artist for a week -- traditional or modern --, who would you choose?

For me, it's Planxty, no contest. I can't get over their first few '70s albums. Brilliant traditional Irish Folk. The quality of lyric, vocal, arrangement, production, and overall instrumental prowess exhibited throughout is just amazing to me. I would instantly recommend their records to anyone even remotely interested in Celtic music. I could easily listen to them for a week! (( It's such a shame that they broke up so early... ))

Anyone else?

Moldy foggy site? I started posting at allaboutjazz.com's forums, if that's what you mean...

Yea, I discovered you over there when I was looking for information on the new Penguin Guide. I take it you didn't notice my mentioning that in the Where are they now thread. The Lady from the High Desert, even went and posted in your Penguin thread to come back already.

I lurked for about a N.Y. minute and fell asleep. I am amazed you lasted as long.

The title alone is goofy. AllaboutJazz? From what I saw they barely discussed Jazz and pretty much a very limited period of Jazz. They even have a Smooth Jazz thread.

It's more interesting being on a multi genre board. It's also no fun preaching to the choir.

While over here, I can silently and slowly indoctrine The Way according to Satchmo.

I see...I hadn't noticed Zephyr's post...

And what is this "where are they now?" thread? I can't seem to find it on either forum.

Also...back on topic...do you have a favorite Celtic artist, Satch?

I know, it's not perfect, but it's the first Jazz forum I could find that looked at all promising. And it's more active than our Jazz forum. Have other suggestions?

I wish you luck, but I sometimes think it may be a lost cause here...

Hmmmm, U2?

It's the Have you Seen This Man thread to be exact.

Since you flew the coup, I have been taking applications for the role of unoffical offical Satchmo translator.

It's about the only thing that has kept my interest in the last couple of weeks around here.

Roivas has been showing some excellent front runner potential.

As well as some real superior prickness. He still hasn't gotten the mental mastrubation Tolstoy posts and there is the whole Zorn factor.

Just do a search for your name. You know you want to read what people have been saying about you, while you were on a self exile.

The Way can sometimes take seconds or many years/lifetimes to fully take effect.

But one day they wake up and they find themselves listening to West End Blues. That's when they know they have found The Way.

I recall some board that Geoff mentioned that I happened to lurk on for a couple days a long time ago. I don't remember the name or site address. If I remember correctly, he said they insulted him or didn't make him feel welcome. I recall that during the couple days I lurked, it seemed that all they discussed was Poltics and Blue Note/Rudy Van Gelder.

There was another board I lurked on for a bit, but I don't remember it's name either. I recall that all they discussed was politics and sports.

Let's put it this way, if they were really of interest, I would be posting there or at least have bookmarked the sites to lurk.

Geoff might know some other more jazz related boards. But I always found sites that limit themselves to one genre, get boring really quick. But what the hell do I know.

I'm not a big big fan of Celtic folk, but for me it would probably be the Irish band Dervish
