Well, that's cryptic enough! I understand though. I'm certainly not the moral majority here as I have my share of CDRs. MP3's in general have never had much appeal to me other than to preview some toons to see if it's going to be something I have a decent chance of liking. Then of course it got to the point where it just wasn't worth it for me. Fortunately I have a pretty decent library system here and they do a good job of keeping decent music around. Also I have a number on internet buddies and we get to shopping off each others lists from time to time. While it's certainly going to be seen as an attempt to rationalize, this little system lets me hear stuff I wouldn't have been able to otherwise and in the end on the stuff I really like I end up buying a new one when it comes out or investigating their catalog to grab older stuff. In the end I wind up buying more and more music every year although the RIAA doesn't seem to see it that way.
Here is a site that may be of interest to some who like their bootleg recordings:
http://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-browse.php The nice thing here is that the show are posted with a lossless compression scheme, either shn or flac. It helps to use an FTP client to d/l the shows. While the site seems to be mainly geared to jam bands since they generally have more tolerant views of the recording of their shows, there are some other bands of note as well:
311
Butthole Surfers
Mogwai
Godspeed You Black Emporer
Calexico
Spoon
Fugazi
...trail of dead
Camper Van Beethoven
And the Mermen, a personal fave of mine.
Recording quality varies but there are reviews making it easier to get the highest quality shows. FYI, the Calexico from April 25 is a sound board recording and superior to most live CDs available for sale.
