Swearing is part of it, yes. It's a part of the society as a whole. Pete Seeger would not even be listened to by the 18 year olds Eminem is talking to. You do have to scream to be heard, and you do have to shock to get attention. This has been the Eminem way all along, and the video and his delivery are consistent with his MO. Whether or not "we" should have let things come to this could be an entirely different discussion.

I saw no real issue with his "kill the president" undertone, because come election day, that's what voting might do. George W Bush, should he not win the election, walks the earth as one of many people that happens to not be president. But in the same scenario, Bush as president would be no more, or "dead" as Eminem put it.

I just saw it again, and I still have no problem with it.

I recently saw an Argentinian video collage about the influence of the US foreign policy on Latin America from the sixties to the early nineties... It was very interesting... and sickening too...

I can name three controversial artists off the top of my head who make Eminem look like a schoolgirl.

The first superstar to blatantly reject Bush and his administration.

Dixie Chicks (Not saying they were the first, just giving an example)

I have a sentimental affection for this: the FUCK BUSH thread and am glad to see some new posts. In some small way it helps me feel redeemed for my earlier reckless, wanton posts which threatened to compromise the integrity of this: the FUCK BUSH thread. Fans of the entity currently known as "Eminem" will be glad to know he is in good spirits after the re-election of the president . Naturally, He and his record company would've suffered a precipitous drop in product sales had Kerry won. I understand Mr. Mathers got together the night after the election with two other surreptitious supporters of Bush: Bill and Hillary, for a private celebration!

Algernon, you made my day.

I was just telling my husband I think the Clinton folks who were supposed to be "helping" to advise the Kerry campaign - Begala and Carville, specifically - were probably sabotaging it further to ensure Hilary a chance in 2008. Just a thought that popped into my mind after hearing about a Newsweek article regarding both campaigns.
