What does your collection look like ?
Hi,
i'm developping an interest in classifications and i'd like to know how you do organize ( if you do at all ) your CD or albums collections.
If you're interested, please send me a picture of your collection ( i'll resize it myself ) and a description of how you classify them ( names, genres, etc . )
you can see how it'll look like here : http://www.chez.com/barkokhba/collection.htm
send the stuff to my e-mail : sylvain.dal@swing.be
greetz,

My collection is about 75% rock (and all it's subgenres). I have my cds separated into rock, jazz, blues, Hawaiian, classical, comedy and miscellaneous (this encompasses the rare country cd - Mary Chapin Carpenter is a fave of mine - and world stuff). Within each catagory I have them in alphabetical order by artist then album title. For classical I have them in alphabetical order by composer then artist. It's the only way to find stuff since I've reached 5,000 and counting. I also have a bunch of cds at any given time in my cd player or on my desk but they all have a place.
I don't bother separating the rock into catagories because it would be too much of a pain in the butt. I have no problems with Judas Priest and Tori Amos being lumped into one catagory.

I have a bit more than Music Director.
I separate it into genres and alphabetical order by musician/group and than chronological by recording date. That way a person can listen to the evolution of a musician/group over their recording careers.
For classical, it is by composer and work.
Box sets are stored separately but the same system is in use.
I know where everything is, but I also use a database to keep track of everything. Including musicians, sideman, songs, recording dates, etc...
That way I cut down on getting the same release, which can happen with Jazz and Blues recordings, if you're not careful.

I forgot to mention I have a data base too but for the classical stuff only. I suppose it would be a good idea to make one for jazz and blues too. I'm not going to bother with the rock stuff cause I have too many of them already and being he sloth that I am, it would probably take too much time on my part.

I also forgot to add, that I seperate the 78's, 45's, lp's and cd's apart. Once again, using the same system as before.
Not that this has any bearing on the subject, but I can't speak/read Lithuanian.

Well I have nothing on the rest of you, but all I do is alphabetize them. I figure that if I want to listen to something, I'm gonna know what it is and just grab it. However, I definitely don't have more than about 200 albums. But I do put my favorites in a separate place next to my stereo, since I listen to them the most.

My shit is everywhere. I have a ton of MP3's (in the process of backing up every album I have to MP3 in case my CD's get stolen again). I also have a HUGE book of CD's that is overflowing, plus a ton more everywhere. I have CD's all over at work and at home.

I have my CDs pretty much unorganized in a shelf. Every CD I have is ripped to my PC though, with the winamp media library organising the whole thing.
