IDM doesn't limit the artist at all: you can make IDM at 90 BPM at 1/8 or at 170 BPM as 1/16, or simply use 3/4 or 5/4 patterns.

IDM is free and flexible like Jazz.

i don't know how smarter idm makes you, but at least makes you think differently in therms of what you expect from music.

I do't think IDM makes you smart and I don't listen to it for anything except hedonistic pleasure.

It does make you think about what your listening to though and really isn't background/club/bar music (except maybe some of the more ambient stuff).

I think that this sets it apart from other genres.
