This Autechre transcript interview is quite informative I think, though 3 years old. We get a decent view on their philosophy of fame etc

i find this review to be very enlightening. i find that those two are more about communicating than analyzing which is why their music is so important to me. they progress with their functionality to make things continually exciting rather than making one great album and trying to reproduce that in some blocky matter. they recycle their ideas and blow em up!

AR - Has an audience ever pissed you off?
SB - Yeah, lots. Fucking hell. Especially. in the early days. Felt like we were asking a little too much of people in the early days, a lot of the time. Yeah, fuck.
AR - Ever taken revenge?
well, in a way they did with Anti, but in a tasteful manner!

i also like the way Booth explains his progression in music. it's not a race against time or other musicians/artists. it's a progression between you and your music. when it becomes a focus on these other aspects, it detaches you from your music. it no longer becomes music, but a political statement.

and just to let those who are interested (even though im sure you've already seen this anyway), i just wanted to clarify that there is also an updated interview (a few years later) with Booth at http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~reynolda/music_ae_020203.html.

I am sure they are other artist with interesting approaches to music making, I wonder why we all are so obsessed with Autechre.

well, all i can say is that im obsessed with Autechre because they have ideas that i can relate to and respect. it's all much more interesting than any other artist ive read about. i'd also have to say the same about their music. purely and simply this is why i talk about them so much. they seem to be innovators of the genre and i can see how they test their tastes and apply them in different landscapes.

and that's what they're all about. communicating what they like. expressing ideas and making them interesting with every release. i can say that i really do not dislike anything they've done in particular. of course there are tracks that are better than others, but nothing that i can truly just skip right over consciously.
