I like the rawness on the earlier material. It's not produced as well, and it certainly lacks the confidence level found on Superunknown, but Ultramega and Louder also have a lot less of what I consider dead space. There is an energy level in that older stuff I find lacking in their last 2 albums.

I don't at all like "Fell On Black days" or "Black Hole Sun", for example. There are stretches on Superunknown where I skip a couple of songs in a row. They aren't terrible, but they aren't grabbing me, either.

On the flip side, the younger Soundgarden could not have churned out "Head Down", "Limo Wreck", "The Day I Tried To Live" or "4th Of July", my favorite songs on Superunknown. So it isn't like I have an aversion to this album.

This is one of my favourite albums of all-time.
I saw them play live in Manchester UK when they were touring this album. It was the day the news about Kurt Cobain's suicide went public, so I've never in my life been to a gig with such a vibe, Soundgarden fucking rocked that night I can tell you. Will never forget it.

Ultramega OK and the Screaming Life/FOPP EP are the last 2 Soundgarden releases I need, and since Ultramega OK was mentioned, I thought I'd ask this question here, which one should I order first?

tough call both are great albums. i'd say 'ultramega OK' is the better album of the two, head injury is fucking awesome. although the screaming life half of that split EP is just as awesome, which also includes one of my all time favorite SG tunes (entering), but the FOPP remix is kinda meh.

Thanks for the info...I just decided, maybe I'll just order both, at the same time, whenever I get some money that is...

It's the one that says "badmotorfinger."

Hear hear. Superunknown suffers from simply having too much material. If they had pared it down to the best 60 minutes or so, it would be a much tighter, stronger album. I love what's good there, but more and more I dislike having to sit through mediocre songs in order to get to the gems.

Badmotorfinger, on the other hand, just kicks ass. Start to finish. "Outshined," "Jesus Christ Pose," "Searching with My Good Eye Closed," "Room a Thousand Years Wide"... OK, I must go listen to that album now.

Personally, I think Half is a really good song. It is weird and indeed experimental, but I cannot put it down in any way.

If I had any song to scratch from this album, it would be "My Wave."

I would also highly suggest Soundgarden's next and funal album "Down on the Upside."
