He's a great, important musician. He's one of the main reasons that the "world music" movement happened. I have only a couple of his albums, but I have unbounded respect for him, and I've really enjoyed exploring his music to the degree that I have done. Maybe down the road a ways I'll get more of his work in my CD collection...I'd love to.

Surprising that there aren't more Shankar fans here, given his rise to prominance from association with the Beatles. Obviously, he's one of the most important sitar players of all time. I own 5 of his records, but do need to pick up some more. Brilliant musician!

I don't like this guy. Hovever he seems to be huge with indie/prog. metal listeners. Wonder why? Plus he has something to do with the beatles doesn't he?

The first time i heard Ravi i was in the car after a long shopping trip with my crazy bro's. It was a really awesome feeling. Ever since then, I've really loved his stuff.

So...why don't you like Shankar? He's one of the most important indian classical musicians ever. I also don't understand the indie/prog metal listener references...his music is about as far away from indie rock and prog metal as one can imagine.

Are you sure you've actually heard his music?

Well, he was a primary influence on George's adventures into Indian music, and I like most of that. I reckon I should pick up an album.
