It's highly aggressive free-jazz -- and "Machine Gun" is probably the best place to start, next to "Nipples" or "Balls"...

All those really are more historical than anything. And the name is Peter Brötzmann. The Octet name covers several groups/recordings over several decades.

Now really essential would be Little Birds Have Fast Hearts Vol. 1 & 2, which is by his Die Like a Dog Quartet. Of the other 3 remaining DLAD recordings the original S/T is next.

The Die Like a Dog Quartet started out as a one time thing in honor of Albert Ayler and has grown from there. There is also the DLAD Trio for when Toshinori Kondo can not play with the others.

There are a lot more I would suggest if those interested you. You're going to eventually want to get the three Seba mentioned. But you can skip at least the other two beside Machine Gun for a good bit.

Keeping up with Brötzmann's releases/reissues of late can be expensive. I believe there have been 8-12 cd/lps releases/reissues this year alone. One just came out a few weeks ago, one he is a sideman on is coming out this week. With another new one under his name in a week or two.

Now Brötzmann really doesn't have anything on Anthony Braxton. Although, this year Braxton is having a slow year for him. I think there have only been 3-4 releases, which only contain 8-10 cds.

Of course, the year is not over for either one. And I know there is a 2cd reissue coming out very soon for Braxton.
