dub is a style of music that reggae producers (king tubby, lee "scratch" perry, augustus pablo...) developed through the 60's and 70's.
dub is very very slow with some slow and deep bass and lovely melodies. dub is based on delaying sounds which adds to it a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
dub is extremely rhythmic and also very ambiental, which makes it some of the most enjoyable music genres outhere.
pole -stephan betke- has some really beautiful dub-kinda album, "pole 2" is the title.

Pretty close. One of the best ways to describe dub - the focus is on the drums, bass and effects (such as reverb, echo chambers, etc). Dub reggae isn't all slow, much of it is up to 120 bpm (house tempos) and it often has no melody unless you count the bassline.
Artists have used the principles of dub reggae on other genres to give us dub house, ambient dub, ragga jungle dub techno....

Augustus Pablo's music was way focused on melodies, same as King Tubby's.
Lee Perry was sort of the AUTECHRE or the Martin Hannett of dub, always focusing on sound design and in ways to make his music to sound different and a bit bizzarre. Great musician.
Isn't DUB usually at 70 BPM? I know there is DUB at 120 but I thought 70 BPM was like the most common speed.
Anyhow I love listening to DUB.
-Keith Hudson was also amazing-

Agustus Pablo brought the melodica to Jamaican music... that was his thing. King Tubby was a producer/remixer, meaning he manipulated recordings of other artists. Most of the dub 'versions' he recorded had the vocals cut out.
Don't talk about Lee Perry like he's dead! He still makes music. Last time I was in Jamaica I had the chance to touch one of his studio setups in the reggae museum!!!
Dub follows the same 'riddims' that other reggae does, both slow and fast. Some of the best dubs are slow... I'll agree with that.
If you love dub like I do, a must have is the Trojan Dub Box Set. $16 for 50 dubs! There's a volume 2 as well, which in my opinion is even better than the first!

I have plenty of Augustus Pablo, Tubby and Perry. Dub music is happy and relaxing, thanks for the tip man.
